My name is Kathleen and I am passionate about helping people lead healthy, happy, balanced lives!
I am certified through the American Association of Drugless Practitioners. I received my degree from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York City and the Teachers College at Columbia University.
After spending 10 years as an "accidental employee" of the finance industry, I followed my passion and transitioned to the wellness field. I now happily work as a Nutritionist/Holistic Health Counselor, where I partner with women to help them find the right food and lifestyle choices that will help them create the life they want and restore much-needed balance. My technique encompasses education, support and coaching in a holistic way.
In addition to individual counseling, I facilitate workshops on various nutrition topics, with my most popular being "Sugar Solutions: How to Tame Your Sweet Tooth". I currently teach a "Nutrition Made Simple" course at the Boston Center for Adult Education, which is a 5-week series, designed to teach participants about food and empower them to make healthy choices and be more mindful of their diet.
What we eat affects everything, therfore when diet changes, everything changes.

TESTIMONIALS
"The Nutrition Made Simple class is exactly that - making learning about nutrition simple, applicable and personal. This class taught me an incredible amount of information in a fairly short period of time, making it even easier to incorporate into my daily life. I was amazed at the amount of information that I did not know previously, from sugar substitutes to grains, and was extremely excited to learn about different types of products that are healthy, and delicious, that prior to this class were unknown to me. (My favorites were the Ezekiel 4:9 Almond and the ground cherries. I've never even seen them before this class!) Kathleen did a wonderful job of creating an environment that was comfortable to ask questions and absorb the information. I appreciate this class more than I can express.
As an aside, since taking this class I have completely cut soda out of my life. I used to drink approximately 4 cans of diet soda daily. I have also reduced the amount of coffee I consume, from approximately 4-8 cups a day (including the venti size Starbucks coffee as '1' cup!), to now having about 1-2 per day each of 8 oz. or less. I really appreciate being given new products to try and statistics that really resonated with me for health reasons (since all 4 of my grandparents had heart attacks, and 2 were diabetic). Thank you for giving me the information that I so desperately needed to jump start eating healthier and eating well. Thank you!"

“I took Kathleen Moriarty's Sugar Solutions class and have been amazed at the lasting impact the class has had. First, with all the magazines and books I read, I thought I knew everything there was to know about sugar -- not so. I learned more about what sugar does to my body, and which sweeteners to use, and ones to avoid. Since taking the class, I have switched to a sugar alternative (the class helped me figure out which one was right for me) and haven't had sugar in the house in four months. Kathleen teaches in an engaging way with great visual aids and product samples....I'll never look at a can of soda the same way again!”

“Last night I went to a lecture at my gym, Healthworks. It was titled "Sugar Solutions: Helping You Tame Your Sweet Tooth." For quite some time I have felt enslaved to my need for sugar. Turns out a lot of women must feel the same because it took 3 rounds of sold-out lectures before I could get in. I think that alone says something about the nature of sugar.
The lecture was an absolute eye-opener, definitely worth the wait. I am so grateful for the information I got, most of it answers to questions and problems I've had for years. Kathleen Moriarty, the holistic health counselor who gave the lecture, talked for almost two hours about the biological effect sugar has on our system. She also had some great positive things to say and some really good tips: 1. Try Stevia, a sweetener that has been used for millennia in some cultures. It is derived from the stem and leaves of herbs and shrubs in the sunflower family and has a glycemic index of zero. 2. You can also try agave nectar, brown rice syrup, maple syrup or, depending on your own reaction to it (for some people it can induce the same reactions as processed sugar), honey. 3. Aim for sweet vegetable instead of processed sugars. Try butternut squash, sweet potatoes, carrots, corn or even red onions. 4. Look at sugar as a treat, not a daily part of life.
This is going to be a real adjustment for me, but I am really excited to try it out and to (hopefully) see my lifestyle change.”
