Supporting you in living the life you have always wanted!
I have been passionate about wellness and sustainability for years, and I am thrilled to share this passion with you!
I grew up in beautiful Victoria, BC, Canada amidst the ocean and mountains. The only child of an Indian father and a Caucasian mother, I was raised with both eastern and western traditions of food and healing, and had an insatiably curious mind. My intense interest in plants and healing was sparked in my early childhood, and at age 14 I received my Reiki Level 1 certification.
In 2007 I completed my Reiki Master certification, and in June 2008 I completed my studies at the Institute for
Integrative Nutrition and Teachers College, Columbia University, earning accreditation from The American
Association of Drugless Practitioners (AADP), and founded Nishani Wellness (formerly Wellness in Bloom). In 2009 I completed an intensive Healing with Whole Foods Training to
incorporate eastern assessment and foundational healing methods into my
practice. A perfect reflection of who I am, my education and unique
clinical methodology bridges the eastern and western traditions with
which I was raised.
I am happy to say that I love what I do! I perform individual and group
health counseling, conduct cooking demonstrations and lead nutritional
workshops and lectures. My mission is to help others heal themselves
and live with balance and passion, while creating a healthy planet for
all.
What brought me to Health Counseling:
As a child, I had chronic ear infections - about 11 by the age of two. I was on antibiotics constantly (anyone remember the pink "banana" medicine?). I definitely had the word Amoxicillin in my vocabulary by the age of three! From ages of 3-15 I had surgery to put tubes in my ears 3 times!!! On my first flight (to Disneyland) at the age of 10, my eardrums ruptured and I had was sick, sick, sick for a week.
In addition to the ear infections, I had chronic constipation. What do I mean by chronic? I had constipation for two decades! I wish I were joking, but no, it's sad but true. Prune juice, Metamucil, 'fiber bars'...nothing was working.
Nothing provided a true solution to these problems.
My loving parents felt helpless, as any concerned parents would. They truly were doing the best they could with the knowledge they had at the time. To this day, I am grateful to them for giving me so much love.
At the age of 3 my parents divorced and I learned to cope by internalizing my feelings. Not until many years later would I realize how this deep sadness would affect my health.
By my late teens and early 20's, I had accepted that constipation and chronic infections were a way of life. I felt that I was a perfectly normal healthy girl. I began abusing my body with food I was never raised on - oreos, fast food, soda, boxed mac 'n cheese, pop tarts, microwaveable dinners and lots of partying. I smoked, drank, did drugs and ate junk. I was a "lucky skinny girl" who stuffed my face with potato chips to avoid my emotions. I kept it all together by having a bubbly personality, a great job, lots of friends and well-developed ways of hiding my true feelings.
On the outside, I was a superstar! On the inside, I was falling apart.
Although I would have never acknowledged it at the time, I truly felt that I was not worthy of the patience, time and money I thought it would cost to eat good food and take care of myself.
Something had to give...
In my mid 20's, I had an identity crisis. I had been 'floundering' for years and now I had no idea where to go, or how to get there. I began a real process of soul searching. I started practicing yoga (real yoga, where the focus is on creating stillness and space). I got inside my body for the first time I remembered - I could feel my heart beating and the blood in my veins. It was the beginning of an incredible journey! I visited a naturopathic doctor, who determined that I had a dairy intolerance that had caused my ear infections, which led to the antibiotics, which in turn damaged my gut, which led to the constipation. The biggest lightbulb of my life went on!
I had control over what was going on in my body?! From that moment on, the things that ailed me could no longer be a surprise.
I knew that I had found my life's calling...
To help others feel as empowered with their health as I felt in that moment.
Years later, I am doing just that and I love it! I feel an incredible amount of joy in seeing my clients make the connection between what is going on in their bodies and how their thoughts, actions and history are creating their health.
I, myself, have moved back to the healing arts I felt drawn to in my early teens. I am practicing Reiki and have a keen awareness of the mind-body connection. I work through emotions, limiting thoughts and old habits with my clients to help them uncover the best versions of themselves. I love my clients!
Testimonials
"Since I
started working with Nisha, my life has changed on a variety of levels. I cook at home almost exclusively now, as she gave me both the motivation and tools to make simple, healthy recipes. This has lead to improved energy and an overall sense of well- being. In addition, at each session I learn another way to care for myself that I didn’t know before, such as breathing exercises,
detox remedies, and other improvements to my daily routine. As a counselor, Nisha is
so
easy to be with. She is always, present and positive and it makes the
information
she is sharing that much more powerful. I would recommend this type of
counseling to anyone interested in living a healthier, fuller, more energized life."

wonderful class. I've had a blast and
learned so, so much. You are truly a great resource and have helped me make some major changes in my life! So thank you. I will be sure to recommend this class to everyone who will listen!"
Female, age 30, artist
You inspire me to be a better
person and take better care of myself which inevitably carries on to the people
in my life, especially my kids...I truly needed you in my life at the very
moment you arrived. You are such a blessing! Thank you for the great work that
you do. Female, age 34, mom & business owner
"Working with Nisha made me a more active participant in my own well
being. I see a bigger picture with regard to my health and I'm making
better decisions every day because of it. Examining the correlation
between food and mood and learning to deconstruct my
cravings/addictions were two of the most eye-opening things we worked
on. Nisha is patient and extremely knowledgeable. Working with her
really changed my life."
